Erythrina verna (Mulungu) has a long history of medicinal use in South America. "Mulungu" refers to two different species of Erythrina; Erythrina mulungu, and Erythrina verna. Both are used by the indigenous peoples as strong sedatives. Mulungu is said to calm the nervous system and induce a pleasant sleep. Research shows that Mulungu contains at least 20 isoquinoline alkaloids, purporting such qualities asanti-inflammatory, sedative, and analgesic. Studies also suggest GABA and Nicotinic receptor activity. This Mulungu is freshly harvested to order in the Brazilian Rainforests. We offer only high quality shredded whole bark.
